Self-Help Center Consumer Manager

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Physical oversight of self-help center daily operations during all scheduled hours, days and activities, ensuring an open welcoming environment that promotes the safety of members.
  2. Provide technical assistance, supervision and support to facilitators, volunteers and members.
  3. Develop marketing materials and arrange to visit with other agencies to speak and promote all activities  of the self-help center and its services to the community
  4. Ensure that the principles of a wellness and recovery based service system are understood by all center staff and promoted to the entire center membership.  Additionally, these principles must be incorporated in the delivery of all center activities.  
  5. Will establish and enforce policies and procedures that promote diversity and cultural competency.
  6. Develop strong relationships with community, county and state agencies, hospitals, CMHC’s, partial care and other programs and self help center and other consumer resources.
  7. Coordinate with self-help center representative(s) and members to attend required and other meeting (SCAC, mental health boards), advocacy events, trainings, and conferences to provide information for the self-help center and promote agency and/or personal growth.
  8. Work with self-help center staff and general membership to develop new, expanded and inclusive activities, groups and other consumer services.
  9. Attend educational opportunities to expand knowledge of self-help, peer support and other initiatives that empower consumers and consumer-operated services.
  10. Posses the ability to collect, input in the computer and maintain pertinent data, develop reports and take an active part in development of quality improvement plans.
  11. Must be able to follow agency policy and procedures, maintain structure for self help center staff and follow and enforce center policy and procedure.
  12. Follow budget guidelines, submit all paperwork and receipts and adhere to policies in relation to all fiscal matters relation to the self-help center.

Education and/or experience

Mental health consumer with experience in the mental health field and/or peer support or other consumer-oriented training programs.                                                                               Good communication/and interpersonal  skills.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Ability to accept supervision and follow all directives                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Must have good time management skills                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Leadership abilities.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Ability to work collaboratively with others within and outside the agency                                                                                                                                                                                            Job requires evening and weekend hours

Acute Care Worker Part Time

Provides  outreach to families of persons with mental illness entering the psychiatric acute care system.   Program services include; outreach to families in the screening center and/or in their home, education to families on aspects of the illness, provision of support to families, education and assistance with service system navigation, referral/linkage and short term follow-up contact.

Peer Outreach Support Team Worker/Part Time

Provide varied types of support and advocacy services to consumers living in the community. These services are delivered on an individual/group basis.  Such activities include; assisting with activities of daily living, providing transportation to appointments, providing recreational opportunities and helping in the pursuits of vocational opportunities.

Applicants must have their own history of receiving mental health services and be active in their own recovery.
Valid New Jersey Drivers License with a clean driving record and reliable transportation
Good Communication Skills, ability to interact with community agencies and good written skills.
