DO:
❖ Remember you always have the option to “pass” if you do not wish to share.
❖ Share only what you feel comfortable expressing for yourself. Speak about your own feelings/experiences using “I” statements.
❖ Abide by the designated time limit on shares.
❖ Eliminate any outside distractions that could interfere with the group meeting.
❖ Listen to the shares of others without reaction or judgement.
DON’T:
❖ Refer to any person outside of the group by name or by any identifying details when sharing. Instead, you must refer to third-party persons using the general term “A Person in My Life” and “They/Them” pronouns.
❖ Share advice, comments or judgment directed at other members. You must avoid any “should” statements directed at other members.
❖ Criticize, belittle, attack, or “tease” anyone in the group.
❖ Discuss or disclose information about any on-going legal proceedings regarding themselves or others within the group.
❖ Interrupt another speaker or have side conversations including virtual communications like text, chat, etc.

Reminder: Feedback is a chance to say something supportive directly to another group member. It is NOT a chance to share again.
Supportive Feedback:
Statements that nurture, affirm and validate what someone else has shared.
Examples:
❖ “I think you were brave to do what you did.”
❖ “I agree with you and it does take a lot of hard work.”
❖ “What you said made so much sense.”
Informational Feedback:
Helpful tips and resources such as books, movies, or groups you may have found beneficial in your own healing
Examples:
❖ “I’m reading a book that’s given me a lot of insight on this topic.”
❖ “I have found a great way to calm myself down when I feel overwhelmed.”

Introduction to Group Meetings:
Each Life in Waves meeting will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and will be held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month via zoom. The first Wednesday meeting will be a Topic Meeting centered around an agreed upon topic. The second Wednesday meeting of the month will be an Open Share Meeting where members have the chance to discuss any topic of their choice as long as it aligns with the overall Life in Waves Principles.
Topic Meeting Format:
Opening: The Life in Waves meeting will begin with a reading of the Statement of Purpose, Group Guidelines, and Group Principles. By remaining in this meeting tonight, I agree to adhere to these guidelines and all requirements expected of me as a Life in Waves group member.
Introduction to Meeting Topic: The meeting will center around a main topic that relates to the common challenges we face as women in the workplace. This topic will be presented by the group facilitator and may be in the form of a reading, question or other pre-approved discussion material.
Individual Share: One by one, members will share their thoughts and feelings about the meeting’s topic. Each member will have the same 4 to 6 minutes to share. If a member does not wish to share, they may choose to pass. Group members must refrain from responding to others in this section. Members must not give judgements or advice on what others have shared.
Individual Feedback: After members have shared, they will be asked if they would like feedback and what kind of feedback they would prefer Supportive, Informational or both. Members who shared will then be greeted by their fellow members who will have 2 minutes as a whole to provide feedback.
Group Share: This is the chance for members to expand on an idea brought up in the meeting or to bring up a topic of their choosing as long as it aligns with the Life in Waves Principles.
Closing: Each meeting will end with the reminder that once the meeting closes, the opinions and thoughts shared will remain anonymous. This will be solidified with the call and response recited by the group facilitator and the members as follows:
Facilitator: There are lows and highs.
All members: We wave goodbye.
